Silver for Borghese Vineyard
|
2009 World Wine Challenge
The 2009 World Value Wine Challenge is the nation’s most comprehensive competition for wines $20 and under—a focused search for wines that give the most value to the consumer. This year’s categories reflect new trends, pricing, and a fresh look at what value wines are. Simply put, value wines are not cheap wines, but wines that offer more flavor and quality at a better price than wines at the same or higher price points.
Castello di Borghese is proud to announce that they received a Silver Medal with an 86 rating for their 2007 Chardonnay $16.99, and a Silver Medal with an 86 rate for their 2008 Sauvignon Blanc $19.99.

Lieb Cellars Takes Gold in the 2009 Grand Harvest Awards
|
May 2009
Lieb Cellars newly released 2007 Bridge Lane Chardonnay has recently taken top honors, a gold medal, in the 2009 Grand Harvest Awards.
The Grand Harvest Awards is truly a one of a kind competition. It is the only wine-judging event in North America that is based on terroir - wine varietals are compared and judged against those from same vineyards, same regions.
The Bridge Lane Chardonnay has been fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks to retain the purity of the Chardonnay character. This style emphasizes bright aromas of stone fruit and green apple along with some tropical notes. Crisp, clean flavors delight the palate leaving a fresh finish and a lingering minerality with a subtle earthy edge. This wine is extremely versatile, and with its light body and liveliness on the palate it can be served as an aperitif or with any light fare.
Other winning wines in this competition include a Silver medal for our new 2006 Reserve Chardonnay and a Bronze for our 2007 Pinot Blanc

GOLD for Borghese Vineyard - 2009 Best-of-Appellation
|
2009
The results are in for the 2009 "Best-of-Appellation" evaluation tasting and Borghese Vineyard has been awarded a Double Gold for their Merlot 2003, and a Gold for their Pinot Noir 2005, Sauvignon Blanc 2007 and Cabernet Franc 2004, respectively.
The "Best-of-Appellation" (BOA) evaluation tastings are designed to facilitate the building of place-identity for the hundreds of winegrowing regions of North America. The BOA Program is not, per se, a competition, though the wines that best express the character and quality of their region of origin are rewarded with medals and placement on Appellation America's Best-of-Appellation Lists for that region.
The BOA process rigorously follows this familiar proposition:
The best wines are defined by place, and the character of each appellation is defined by its best wines.
In the BOA process, the "best" wines are defined by their own place of origin; NOT by the personal taste preferences of our esteemed and expert Evaluators. Nor are the wines of one place judged implicitly against the taste profile of wines from another place.

http://lennthompson.typepad.com/lenndevours/2008/10/new-york-wineries-dominate-the-atlantic-northeast-region.html
October 29, 2008
New York Wineries Dominate the Atlantic Northeast Region Congratulations to Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars, Wolffer Estate, Bedell Cellars, Lenz Winery and Paumanok Vineyards for placing first through fifth on the "Greatest Wine Producers" list for the Atlantic Northeast region in Tom Stevenson's "Wine Report 2009." Dr. Frank's has now taken top honors for the past fives years.
It's hard to argue with any of the wineries on the list and the composition of the list shows that New York has clearly positioned itself as the eastern state if you're looking for quality wine.
I've had wines from Chaddsford (some were good) and L. Mawby (liked those better actually) but not the other wineries. Has anyone tried them?
